Virtual Incision Corporation

is reimagining surgical robotics, with simple innovations offering mobility, flexibility and accessibility to provide minimally invasive options to more patients.
Propelled by the knowledge that colorectal and lower gastrointestinal procedures are the fastest growing in the United States, Dr. Dmitry Oleynikov and Dr. Shane Farritor founded Virtual Incision in 2006.
The company is a spin-out of the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, where Dr. Oleynikov and Dr. Farritor are currently based. John Murphy, based in Pleasanton, Calif., joined Virtual Incision as CEO in 2012.

A global medical technology and health sciences executive, John Murphy has held leadership roles in large public companies, middle-market private equity businesses, and venture capital environments over the past 20 years. He holds graduate and undergraduate degrees in computer science and a MBA in international finance.

Shane M. Farritor PhD, MS

Co-Founder & Chief Technology Officer

Shane Farritor, Ph.D., holds a doctorate and master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from MIT and is currently a faculty member at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Prior to his work at the university, Shane studied at the Kennedy Space Center, Goddard Space Flight Center, and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

Dmitry Oleynikov, M.D., is an active investigator and researcher in the College of Medicine with over 200 peer reviewed articles, and 25 patents in the area of surgical robotics and surgical outcomes research. The Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons has recognized him for his achievements with an award in Excellence in Leadership and currently serves as Chair of Robotics Committee.
